DHD: Leverage daemon au

(confession: I read the first 80% of golden compass in 2006 while waiting for christmas and thus new books and never finished it, so my rules for worldbuilding now!) Some things, everyone knows. Like how to breathe, and just as important. Separating hurts. Nothing cut can be made whole. Daemons don’t settle twice. Everyone in the business knew that Eliot Spencer’s Daemon had settled as an American black bear, and that Marron could kill just as viciously as he did.  Everyone deep in the business knew that he was Moreau’s right hand. Everyone in the business knew that Moreau’s best men were Severed.

Nate had never asked where Marron was, and neither had Sophie, though neither of them knew everything about his time with Moreau. He guessed they’d figured out something as close to the truth as anyone was going to guess, even Moreau. None but the two of them knew the truth, that Marron had run to save them both. That Marron had come back, a scruffy mongrel with a broken banner of a tail. She kept her distance the first few jobs, waiting in the Shadows. Eliot could always feel her there, just as strong as if she’d been only a few feet away. That wasn’t supposed to be how things worked, but no one had told Marron that. Parker, though, had noticed right away. “Like us,” she’d said, eyes flicking skyward. Rhodonite had settled as a Kestral young, after the first stint in Juvie. They’d agreed without needing to speak, aloud or otherwise, about it. That was how they worked. Who could say who’s idea anything they did was? They were the same, and neither of them suffered cages or locked doors lightly. “No,” Eliot had said, uncertain how much was a lie. “No,” Parker had returned. “You’re like us. It was safer. They don’t get that.” She was right about that. Hardison’s Chip, and Nate’s Vianney almost never left their shoulders. When Chip had to, it was usually to a pocket, and Vianney, though she could fly some distance away when a con called for it, preferred to stay as close as possible, where she could bite Nate’s ear, or preen his hair, depending on just how much of an ass he was being. It was easier to hide a pika than a parrot, unfortunately, but they always made do.  Remy helped with that. Remy had introduced himself when Nate had introduced Sophie to the team, a soft mink draped over a shoulder. “Remy. It’s short for anything you can think of,” he’d said, sliding off Sophie’s arm to investigate, shifting into a sleek, dark cat. He’d been Rembrant, Reminiscent, Remolade, Remnant; everything from a mobster’s coiled snake to a street rat’s street rat. It never bothered him what his name was, or what hers was--Sophie, Katherine, Charlotte, Laura. Names were as changeable as the color of her hair, the shade of his eyes.  “She never settles, so I don’t see why I have to. If you have a problem with that, I’ll bite you.” “I’ll bite you, too,” Sophie had laughed, a deadly glint in her eye. “So, Nate, what’s the score? What finally got you to try my side of the board?” The money had been good. The understanding--or at least, the hiding of judgment, was better. They’d split off and found their way back, again, again.

The Brotherhood, Pt. 7

Make no mistake, for Acastus Kolya finding the thing that the Lanteans are looking for is at most a side-quest. Snatching something they are trying so hard to get their hands on is a bonus. Protecting his people from the Wraith is what he tells himself he is doing. But what this is really about is vengeance, pure and simple.

His first priority is making John Sheppard suffer and then, only after he has suffered sufficiently, to kill him. This is why he agreed to McKay's proposal to find the ZPM for him in exchange for his team. He never had any intention of keeping his word and letting them go (his "the others will be let go" definitely did not include the two of them). Taking McKay away from Sheppard and letting him stew in the pit in the ground without him is just toying with them, a cat playing with the mouse before taking its life.

At the gate, we get another close up of McKay touching things in an unnecessarily sensual manner. This seems to be a significant motif for this episode.

McKay: It's not working. Kolya: Try it again. McKay: Look, I've tried it twice, backwards and forwards. Kolya: We've played this game before, McKay. Try some other combinations of the same symbols.

In the A-plot, a Wraith dart scans the city of Atlantis and sends the information back to the Hive. Similarly, Kolya is gathering intel through his observation of McKay. He is trying to figure out how best to use McKay against Sheppard. By reminding him of their shared past experiences, he's also letting McKay know that he is very much going to hurt him if he does not do as he wants. The life of the Daganian woman next to him is especially expendable to Kolya, and he won't spare her like he did spare Weir due to his machinations.

Although, compared to the events in The Eye (S01E10), McKay is not being nearly as careful with what he says to him. What he's doing here, now, is not directly endangering Sheppard so he can let some of his displeasure show. Back then, anything he said could have cost either Weir or Sheppard their lives.

Note that Kolya is not looking at McKay while he lets him work on the DHD because he really doesn't care whether it works or not. And when he walks behind McKay, he stands uncomfortably close.

Pronos, Kolya's--let's say--second in command is interesting. He seems very intelligent and he is intentionally paralleled with Sheppard in this observation that there are 720 possible combinations for the stargate symbols on the stone tablets:

McKay: You joking? Do you have any idea how long that would take? Pranos: He's right. There are 720 possible gate address. McKay: It's a waste of time.

This was one of the first things Sheppard ever said to McKay (in Rising, S01E01), and it certainly was the moment that McKay noticed him, not as a good-looking military guy (which he had clearly noticed earlier, trail as he did after him as they entered Atlantis) but as a distinct person. Sheppard mentioning the 720 combinations that he had just calculated in his head where McKay hadn't even started doing the math was the beginning of the road that had lead to John Sheppard becoming the most important person in his world--and this is true regardless of how you interpret the nature of their relationship.

Note, however, that we know McKay knows how many combinations there are, we have seen him being told this, but here it is not he that makes a reference to them. He is not volunteering any information to Kolya. And, at the very least, this reference seems to remind him of Sheppard, even though he does he best to not let it show:

Pranos displays other signs of intelligence, as well:

Pranos: What about something else? What if these aren't stargate symbols? McKay: Look at them. What else would they be, huh? Allina: Actually, these symbols may not be gate-related.

For some reason, the intelligence of both of these characters is emphasized which, together with what happens with Sheppard and the tablets later, makes McKay seem off his game. Granted, this is not his core area of expertise, but we have been lead to believe he is the most intelligent person on the expedition (at least he would like to think so), so he should easily beat the natives of Pegasus in simple reasoning--if not in mental math. But I am wondering whether McKay is downplaying his abilities on purpose, or he is simply too distracted for his mind to be entirely on the problem.

And if he is not purposefully downplaying his skills (which we have seen him do with Kolya previously), he is definitely overplaying his praise of and affection for Allina for the same reason that Sheppard seemed to want to imply indifference toward him in front of Kolya. It's noticeable that Kolya does not threaten her life at all even though, if he believed that she was in any way significant to McKay, threatening her would be the best and quickest way to whip him into action. For all intents and purposes he acts as though she was not even there. But as stated, finding the ZPM is a secondary concern to him. He admitted himself that he could just as well have buried them all alive and called it a day.

Either way, it is the combination of the efforts of Allina and Pranos that lead them to look for the answers in the monastery and the wall-painting they were looking at the previous night. We get a shot of McKay's back from the perspective of Kolya who is standing behind him, and he's looking real good. There are two candles burning behind him, one taller than the other, perhaps symbolic of something. Kolya is watching them from the same perspective that Sheppard did last night but now that it's daytime and Sheppard is not here, it's safer to show the audience how erotic the sight really is--and definitely was in the dim lighting of the night before.

Kolya is watching McKay, and he notices it. Kolya is watching him while he takes up a piece of food from the table and puts it into his mouth in what can only be described as a predatory gesture. This may well be of the same food Sheppard was eating the night before, also watching the two of them from behind. McKay clearly pauses, sees Kolya doing this, and then turns and calls Allina a genius. While Kolya had not threatened her life at all, this may be an attempt by McKay to make her seem necessary and invaluable, like he did with Weir previously. Trying to make it seem like they needed Weir so that he would spare her life. This is a possible explanation.

But as mentioned, Kolya has not threatened her at all and it was McKay that he was watching intently. He is making the vibe erotic by slowly biting down on the piece of food while making eye contact with him. If we assume that Sheppard and McKay had had a discussion about him agreeing to having to act the part of Valentino (which is to say, pretending to romance women) to throw people off the track now and again, it might be that that's what he decides to do, here. You can see the gears turning in his mind before he--not one to ordinarily and spontaneously compliment women--turns to her and calls her a genius.

If he can get Kolya to think that he cares about this woman, that she is special to him, it might make him less inclined to take his hatred of him out on Sheppard. And McKay does believe that Kolya hates him specifically, just reinforced by his earlier comment about his grating voice. From his perspective, Kolya had just been using Sheppard to get him to do what he wanted back on Atlantis.

We get yet another close up of McKay doing things with his hands, and all of them have been rather erotic. While there are three laser pointers that he is fiddling with here, there is also something undeniably phallic about it.

Kolya walks slowly toward McKay from behind which seems to cause him to step forward just to maintain the space between them. He also crosses his arms defensively. Kolya is a dangerous man whose presence would make McKay feel discomforted at the best of times but there is something predatory about the way he prowls here. In this context, he gives Allina another compliment:

Allina: I was hoping it would narrow the area down a little more. McKay: Well, it was worth a shot.

Notice that he is keeping his arms crossed while turned toward her the whole time which just tells us that his "courting" of her is not genuine. A person that is attracted to another removes barriers from between them, does not add to them. The reason why he is paying her compliments is related to Kolya's presence.

McKay figures out that the symbols aren't pointing to the location of the ninth tablet on the map but to the tablet itself that is hidden inside the wall. He asks them to give him a knife that would help him dig it out, and this is paralleled with Sheppard later asking Kolya for a gun so that he could "shoot him myself" which, again, is an attempt by Sheppard to make it seem like they are far less important to each other than they really are. I mean, Sheppard even asks McKay whether they "are good" afterward, making sure that McKay understood what he was going there.

Here, Kolya agrees to give him the knife. He does not consider McKay a threat, at least on the physical front. The thought that he would think that they would think that he poses a danger to them amuses him.

We get another close up of McKay's hand with more phallic imagery, and again it seems to be Kolya's perspective from which we are looking at McKay's hands working on cutting the tapestry.

McKay pulls out the piece after which Kolya congratulates him on his discovery, saying that he may live yet--reminding McKay of the fact that, as far as he is concerned, Kolya is very much going to kill them all. Kolya is seated behind the table, looking at him like a snack. He knows that they cannot trust this man. Rather than working on uncovering the ZPM, his mind is working on how to get them out of this.

And elsewhere, as he often does, Sheppard is working on the exact same problem.

Oii, tudo bem?

Esse post tem o intuito de falar um pouco sobre os (vários) pacotes que temos para o the sims 4 e explicar mais ou menos como eles funcionam.

Dessa forma, nós temos 4 categorias de pacotes de conteúdo adicional ou DLC (sigla em inglês para “downloadable content” ou “conteúdo baixável” no português), para o The Sims 4. It was a weekday, and Alex had school work to do. But she was procrastinating on getting anything done.

Al-iety had been distracting her with fake scenarios in her head that left her feeling exceptionally anxious, so she couldn’t focus on doing anything.

Alex H was working on overtime, trying to compensate for the work that Al-iety was putting in, so that Alex could actually focus on her school work.

Alex was a heaping ball of worry, no thanks to Al-iety and no matter what Alex H did, she didn’t see it getting any better.

Suddenly, she had an idea. While Al-iety was looming over Alex, whispering about all the bad things that could happen and all the things she did wrong, Alex H snuck up behind her intending on startling her to get her to stop. She grabbed Al-iety’s sides, making said aspect squeak and jump in surprise.

“AYE!” Al-iety squeaked out. “Hey- Why’d you do that for!?” She asked Alex H in annoyance. “Well, I was trying to get you to stop pestering Alex but it seems I accomplished something else…” She trailed off, pondering about something.

“Yeah. well…” Al-iety started. “Warn a dude next time.” She stated. Alex H didn’t respond though. She was too focused on something else; an idea she just had.

“Why are you looking at me like that??” Al-iety asked. “You know I don’t like to be perce-EEEEIVED! HEHHEY!!” While she was talking Alex H acted upon her thoughts, and quickly squeezed Al-iety’s side.

“ACK- Hey! What was that for!?!” She questioned angrily. “Why’d you do that!?” “I was testing a thought I had, which I was apparently right about.” Alex H stated dryly.

“What does that mean??” Al-iety asked, ticked off by the whole situation. “Al-iety, Are you ticklish?” She asked deadpan. “I- uh… w-What…??” “Are. You. Ticklish?” Alex H asked again. “What? No. Of course not…” She said in an unsure tone.

“Well, you sure seem like it.” Alex H stated. “Whats that s’posed to mean?!?” She shot back. “It means exactly what you think it means.” She stated.

“Why are you dodging the question?” Alex H asked. “Wha- I’m not dodging anything!” Al-iety claimed. “You’re the one who’s being weird here, buddy. Not me!” While they were arguing, Al-DHD came in the room.

“What are you guys fighting about in here??” She asked, annoyed. Aldie was watching Smosh Mouth in the other room, when she heard Alex H & Al-iety fighting. So she decided to come and investigate.

“Oh- hey Aldie.” Alex H said. “We were just arguing over whether or not Al-iety is ticklish.” She explained deadpan. “Oh. Really?” She asked. “That’s what this is about? You could have just come to me, and I could’ve told you.”

As she said that, Al-iety was behind Alex H making hand gestures for her to stop talking. Aldie didn’t get this hint though, as she kept on talking.

“Oh, really?” Alex H’s curiosity peaked. “How do you know?” She asked Aldie. “Because me and Al-iety have had some tickle fights here and there.” “She always loses though.” She pointed out, with a smirk as she saw said aspect physically cringe at that.

“Oh Really?~” Alex H asked, now turning to the person behind her, with a new found sense of mischief in her. Right as Alex H turned to her, she bolted out the door into the living room.

“You’re not getting away that easy… get back here!!” She yelled after Al-iety, as Aldie stands in the now empty room wondering what just happened.

—Cut To Alex H & Al-iety’s POV—

Al-iety was running for what felt like forever to her. After she ran into the living room, she had sank down into the mindscape to throw off Alex H.

Alex H noticed this though and followed suit. Now they were both alone in the mindscape, playing a classic game of cat and mouse.

“Al-iety~ Where Are You?~” She called out. “I’m not gunna hurt you when I find you.” She claimed.

They had randomly turned the mindscape into a big library, with lots of big shelves and hallways. So when someone would talk it would bounce off the walls.

Al-iety was currently hiding behind a bookcase. Her heart pounding in her chest. She could hear Alex H getting closer.

“I know you’re here.” She stated. “And you wanna know something else I know?” As she said that, she was currently searching behind shelves for Al-iety.

It was silent for a moment. Until… “I know you like this game~”

This is how season 2 of metakitties would have ended!!! Barry couldn't feel his fingers, staring at the wall. Nyoom mewed softly, one long note of warning before leaping. He caught her on instinct, burying his hands in her long fur and ignoring the small shocks from the lightning that bristled off her.  

The message Zoom had left, blackened on the wall, was stark. 

He had Wally. He'd watched them all long enough to know Barry's weakness, and he'd finally made his move. 

"Barry," Joe said, grabbing him by the arm. "Barry. Breathe. We'll figure something out."

"Joe, he's too fast," Barry said, finally ripping his eyes away. He flinched. How had he not heard Eddie, Iris, Cisco all coming up the stairs? "He's too fast. I can't..."

"Then it's a good thing we have a better plan than 'run in circles a lot,' Cisco said. 

Barry looked at him. "We do?"

"Well, not yet," Cisco admitted. "But we'll come up with something." 

"We'll get him back," Eddie promised as Iris approached, slipping her arm through Barry's. Nyoom grumbled as she resettled herself. "Lets go back to STAR. We'll come up with something."

"I can call Caitlin," Cisco said. Barry knew she and Ronnie would get back to STAR labs as fast as they could, but what if it wasn't fast enough?

Joe nodded. "Good idea. Who else has one?"

"I....think I do," Iris said, looking at the rumpled sheets on Wally's bed where Moose was anxiously kneading one of his sweaters. "but we need Caitlin and Scrap. And we're going to need Eevee." 

That was enough to startle Barry fully. Eevee wasn't one of the STAR Labs cats. "Do you think Kenna will risk her like that?"

"Wally's counting on us," Iris said. "I'll convince them."

Wally stared across the interior of Star Labs, trying to blink his eyes back into focus. The flash stood two steps in front of his dad and sister, with Eddie and Caitlin and Cisco flanking them.  The Flash's mask was off. Something in Wally shouted that he should have guessed it was Barry, but fear still curled too tight around him, like Zoom's hand on the back of his neck. He was going to die. He'd thought, earlier, he was going to die in that cell, a chain looped around his wrist. 

"The Flash's speed," Zoom said again, satisfied with who was in the room and who was not. He'd ordered Caitlin to shut her cat, Scrap, out of the room, checked the others. They'd done so without hesitation. "Or I break him the way I broke you, Barry. This one doesn't have a healing factor like you. How long before he--"

"Enough," Barry interrupted, light eyes flecked with gold. "Fine. You can have my speed. Just don't hurt him."

Wally opened his mouth to protest. Didn't the Flash---didn't Barry know that the minute this guy had what he wanted, they were all dead anyways? He caught the look on Iris's face, saw the cat she was absently petting. Not Goldie. Moose. The black tabby that had chosen, for some reason, him. Moose's amber eyes were fixed on him, pupils wide, in the way that always made him look so silly. 

Barry clambered onto the treadmill, as Cisco adjusted the wires to Zoom's specifications. AS he started to run, Zoom leaned forward. Wally despaired. The window to escape was narrowing every second. Moose inched forwards, despite the lightning, one white paw at a time. Zoom paid him no heed, but Wally was suddenly grateful for the warm weight leaning against his ankles, the vibration of the purr pushing into him. 

The number on the treadmill display rose higher. Barry ran slower. 

A cat yowled.

It was like everything happened in slow motion. Cisco scooped up a fluffy brown cat Wally had  never seen before and launched her at Zoom. The cat sunk her claws into the fabric of Zoom's suit before pushing off, leaving blue lightning in her wake. Zoom's grip on Wally released as Moose's purr grew louder and louder, a sheen of golden energy circling boy and cat and pushing the monster back.

And from a ceiling tile dropped Scrap, falling only a few inches before she rippled and grew, the size of a bear, bigger, directly onto Zoom's head.  Wally ducked, Moose's shield coming with him, holding up the weight of the bear-cat until she shrank, leaving a gory mess of suit and blood and exposed bone, all that remained of Zoom.  the Tiny kitten licked one paw, and scampered away, leaving a trail of red pawprints. 

"Told you it would work," Iris said. "Wally, are you ok?"

"No?" he said. " I... the cats. The.. What?"

"It's a lot, " Eddie agreed, reaching out a hand and Moose, still purring, let the force field drop. With a shaking hand, Wally pet his cat until his dad dropped beside him in a hug.  

"Hey, uh, Question," said Cisco, looking slightly green at the sight of Zoom's pancaked corpse. " what happens to his speed, now? Eevee can't exactly give it back, so..."

"Kenna's going to kill us," Barry said, levering himself off the treadmill, waving a hand to check that his own speed was still there.

"Not in here," Cisco said as Fuzzwhump bared her tiny teeth at Barry, who apologized.

"I..I'm sorry," Wally said again, a little more loudly. "What?"

"Uh, long story short, superpowered cats, no, we don't know why or how, you're welcome for them saving you," Caitlin said, cuddling Scrap.  

Wind roared down the hallway, blue and gold lightning dancing as Nyoom and Eevee raced each other back into the main room. Eevee paused in front of Wally, looking at the mess behind him.

"Wait, no--" Joe started, but it was too late. Eevee, whiskers twitching, carefully bapped Wally's cheek, and blue lightning flared. 

When he blinked open his eyes, Moose was standing on his chest, rumbling a purr like thunder. 

"Good news and, uh, interesting-not-exactly-bad news," Caitlin said.  "Good news, you're fine." "Interesting news," Cisco said, "You're going to need a code name."
